Motorcycle parade cancelled due to public protest

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A three-day motorcycle parade organised by a private motorcycle club called “Spin Rider Club” from Mirigama to Anuradhapura via Kalpitiya has been cancelled by the police due to public protest.

The said club had sought permission to hold the parade in line with a cash donation to Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and distribution of books and stationery to school children in Kalpitiya. Police said.

They said permission was granted subject to conditions and charging government fees as it was a request made legally regarding a charity work.

However, the parade scheduled from Kalpitiya to Anuradhapura has been cancelled due to public protest and violation of agreed conditions, police said.

Police said steps would be taken to take legal action if they had acted against the law.
