Fifteen persons arrested for violating health regulations

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Police say 15 individuals have been arrested island wide during the past 24 hours for failing to wear face masks.

Accordingly, the number of arrests made under this offence increases to more than 2,700.

Speaking to NewsRadio Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said charges have been filed against 2,600 persons to date.

He said a special operation was conducted at 878 government and non governmental institutions yesterday to monitor adherence to health measures.

The DIG claimed, 785 persons were found to be following quarantine rules while 86 were not.

He noted that 6,919 businesses in total have been inspected, while charges have been filed against 1,001 of them for failing to ensure a safe work environment amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
