Trade unions to protest today over several demands

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A protest campaign will be launched at noon today across the country by a number of trade unions based on several demands including a salary hike.

Several unions in the railway, postal, health and administrative service sectors are due to take part in today’s struggle.

They demand the government to ensure a respectable state service, increasing the salaries by Rs.10,000 while the decision to increase the age of retirement to 65 years to be scrapped.

Chairman of the Government Nursing Officers’ Association Saman Rathnapriya said the government has not provided any relief or salary increases through the 2022 Budget.

He said development officers and Grama Niladhari officers will also be part of it.
