Sinister move by govt to postpone general election: Harin

(UTV|COLOMBO) – There is a sinister move by the government to postpone the general election citing coronavirus as an excuse, former MP Harin Fernando said today.

Mr. Fernando told a press conference that the move by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to sign nomination papers from Kurunegala is the beginning of this exercise.

“Signing of nomination papers by Premier Rajapaksa may be the beginning of this drama to postpone the election” the former MP said.

“Real motive of this move is to get away from the disadvantageous position which the government is facing with the crash of economy in the country, while there is also a move to safeguard a government’s ally whose party office in Ethukotte. We all can remember that a road was as halted to save this person” he added.

Also he said the country might go in for a dictatorial rule in the event the elections are postponed.
