Regulations to be amended to set standard Aflatoxin Levels

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Regulations to be amended to lower the Food Control Administration Unit (FCAU) of the Health Ministry set standard of Aflatoxin Levels in coconut oil to 10 micrograms / kilogramme to match the level of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI).

According to the FCAU Director Dr Thilak Siriwardena, the current controversy surrounding the substandard imported coconut oil had demonstrated the need to have a single standard for both Institutions.

Currently, the FCAU’s standard for Aflatoxin Levels is 30 micrograms / kilogramme.
