Prisons to permit visitations

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prison authorities have decided to grant visitation privileges to prisons and suspects with effect from today (04).

Prisons Spokesperson & Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake speaking to media has said prisoners will be allowed one visitor per month and suspects will be allowed one visitor per week.

Visitation was suspended from Aug. 07 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the Department of Prisons encourages relatives of inmates to continue to use the online portal for visitation access.
