President makes surprise visit to Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority

(UTV | COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Friday (18) made a surprise inspection at the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, located in Colombo 7

The objective of the President’s visit was to directly engage with the officials from the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority on the possibility of further using Hydro, Wind, and Solar energy for electricity generation.

The Government aims to enhance the contribution of hydro and renewable energy to 80% of the overall energy mix by 2030, as per the National Policy Framework Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour.

The visit also explored the possibility of the short-term inclusion of renewable energy sources to address Sri Lanka’s present energy crisis.

In addition, the President had used the visit to inquire into the delay in granting approvals to pending renewable energy projects.
