President commends support extended by WHO

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appreciated the support extended by the World Health Organisation to Sri Lanka, and the work it carries-out globally to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Rajapaksa and Director-General of the WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus held discussions pertaining to the ongoing situation in the country following the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The President has indicated that Sri Lanka will collaborate with the WHO to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control.

President Rajapaksa and the WHO Chief had also discussed matters concerning health and economic impacts the COVID-19 crisis can have on Sri Lanka.

In a tweet, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he commended the President for mobilizing the entire government of Sri Lanka in the fight against the coronavirus.
