Pakistani prisoners 43, deported from SL

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Forty-three Pakistani prisoners convicted of drug offences in Sri Lanka were deported to Islamabad in Pakistan at the Bandaranaike International Airport on a special flight this morning.

An airport official said that the prisoners were convicted by the Sri Lankan High Court and were in prisons for a period of 10 – 15 years in various prisons.

The Pakistani government had sent a special Pakistan Airlines flight with 86 security personnel to the BIA last night to take them away.

The prisoners were brought to the Katunayake airport by several buses of the Sri Lanka Prisons Department.

The prisoners’ case files were also handed over to the Pakistani security officers by the local authorities.
