Over 1,000 kg of smuggled turmeric found

(UTV | COLOMBO) – 1,024kg and 245g of turmeric believed to have been smuggled to the island via sea route, has been found and seized by Police while concealed in a lorry in Mannar.

The operation was carried out based on a tip off received by the Pesale Police.

It was revealed the stock was wrapped in 29 polythene sacks.

Police said a suspect is yet to be arrested in relation to the case. The Pesale Police are conducting further investigations.
