Organized group of extremists behind Mirihana riots

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The President’s Media Division says an organized group of extremists were behind yesterday’s unrest and violence in Jubilee Post, Nugegoda.

The PMD said the group, armed with iron rods, and clubs, provoked protesters and marched towards the President’s residence in Pengiriwatte, Mirihana causing a riot.

The PMD issuing a statement said many of those involved in the violence have been arrested and have been identified as organized extremists.

The statement said they spearheaded the campaign calling for an Arab Spring in Sri Lanka.

The PMD added the detainees revealed that the riot was carried out anonymously on social media to provoke the public and destabilize the country.
