No risk from oil spills from MT New Diamond

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Navy says there is no risk of an oil spill in Lankan waters owing to the explosion and fire on board the ‘MT New Diamond’ at present.

Director General Operations of the Navy Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department today said the vessel is now 22 nautical miles off the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka.

He said despite cracks on a quarter of the ship, there is no risk of the ship splitting.
