Navy assists apprehension of suspect with T 56 assault rifle

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Navy and Police apprehended a person with a T 56 assault rifle, while conducting a search at Kurinjinagar in Valaichchenai on Friday (10).

Being a prominent security element in the island conducting regular operations for the national defence, the Navy carried out this search in coordination with the Police STF in Kurinjinagar area and interrogated a suspected pedestrian. During further investigation, the security personnel managed to find a T 56 assault rifle concealed in a sack. Further, 27 (7.62 X 39) ammunition and a magazine of the rifle were also found. Meanwhile, the apprehended person revealed that the riffle was brought from Kiran.

The apprehended person has been identified as a resident of Kiran, aged 23. The suspect along with the T 56 rifle, ammunition and magazine was handed over to the Valaichenai Police for onward legal action.
