National List row in TNA

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A political rift opened up in the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) following a decision to name the Leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) as its National List Representative.

The decision to offer the National List Parliament Seat to ITAK Leader Mavai Senathirajah has faced opposition from within as earlier it was decided that the Seat will be offered to a TNA Member of the Ampara District.

However, yesterday (09) ITAK had decided that the Seat will be offered to Senathirajah, who lost his Seat in Parliament at the 2020 Parliamentary Election.

TNA alliance members, the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) have opposed any move by ITAK to name Senathirajah as its National List Representative without consulting all TNA members.

However, former Councillor in Eastern Province and Ampara District Navithanveli Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Thavarasa Kalaiyarasan has been nominated as TNA Representative for the National List Parliament Seat.

TNA consists of ITAK, PLOTE, and TELO.
