Muslims to be allowed to get married under Marriage Registration Ordinance

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Muslims are to be allowed to get married under the Marriage Registration Ordinance.

A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Cabinet and approval has been obtained.

The Government pointed out that as per the 12th Section of the Constitution no citizen shall be discriminated against on the grounds of race, religion, language, cast, sex, political opinions, or place of birth.

However, the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act has included specific provisions that discriminate against women.
