Moratuwa Mayor arrested for disrupting the duties of health workers

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal Fernando has been arrested for disrupting the duties of health workers.

Fernando was arrested after he surrendered to the Mount Lavinia Police today.

A tense situation was reported at a vaccination center in Moratuwa yesterday when Fernando demanded health workers to vaccinate people he had given tokens to.

Health workers had however refused to do so saying there was a procedure to follow.

A heated confrontation had also taken place between a doctor on duty and the Mayor.

The doctor informed the Police at the location that the Mayor was preventing her from carrying out her duties.

Samanlal Fernando is a member of the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
