Minimum bus fare reduced to Rs. 34/-

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The National Transport Commission (NTC) stated that bus fares will be decreased by 11.14% with effect from midnight today (04).

The Director General of NTC, Nilan Miranda stated that accordingly, the minimum bus fare will be reduced to Rs. 34 from the previous rate of Rs. 38.

He added that bus fares will be reduced to give passengers the benefit of the recent reduction in the price of a liter of Diesel by Rs. 10.

Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association stated that they have decided to withdraw from operations at midnight today (04).

Ajantha Priyanjith, the Secretary to the Private Bus Owners’ Association stated that the decision was made in consideration of the quota of fuel allocated for buses via the QR code system, which was only 40 liters of diesel per week.

He stated that long distance buses cannot function for more than 1hour subject to the quota, while short distance busses can only function for 12h or 10 hours.
