‘Many asymptomatic COVID-19 cases out in society’

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath says a large number of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases are prevalent in society.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Dr. Herath said it cannot be stated with clarity that the coronavirus is not at a community transmission level.

Dr. Herath claimed the Sinhala and Tamil New Year can be celebrated as per usual if health practices are diligently followed in order to control the spread of the virus.

He added one cannot move away from the new-normal despite having obtained the booster vaccine dose.

The Deputy Director said linking the current outbreak to a cluster being formed is a difficult task acknowledging that many cases have been reported lately.

However, Dr. Herath called on the public to help avoid a large scale breakout of coronavirus cases.
