Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva assumes duties as Acting CDS

(UTV| COLOMBO) – Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva assumed duties today as the Acting Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

He was appointed to the post with effect from Wednesday (01) and will hold the position in addition to his present Office of the Commander of the Army.

The appointment was made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Gunaratne retired from service on 31 December, 2019.
