(UTV | CAMBODIA) – The Lower Sesan 2 dam, located at the confluence of the Sesan Rivers and Srey Pok River in northern Cambodia has led to the relocation of at least a thousand indigenous families, fearing the drowning of their village, which negatively affected their livelihood and way of life, that depends mainly on forest products, and fishing, which completely has been destroyed by the construction of the dam.
Experts say hydroelectric power dams also built near the source of the Mekong River and its tributaries, also affect the fish stocks further downstream because they obstruct the water flow leading to lower water levels and trap routes of migratory fish, which cannot make their way to breeding grounds.
