(UTVNEWS-COLOMBO) The Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) has called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to take urgent steps to uphold truth, justice, and international cooperation in the investigation into the Chemmani mass graves, where over 65 skeletal remains – including those of infants – have been uncovered to date.
In a detailed three-page letter sent this week, ITAK raised serious concerns about the ongoing exhumation process in Jaffna. The party is demanding the involvement of independent international forensic experts, greater transparency in the handling of evidence, and the consolidation of legal proceedings related to the mass graves from both 1999 and 2025.
ITAK also urged the government to secure the return of skeletal remains currently held in Glasgow for further forensic examination.
Highlighting the gravity of the alleged atrocities, the party stressed the need for transparent forensic processes, victim identification, and the prosecution of those responsible. ITAK argued that these steps are essential not only for delivering justice to victims’ families but also for fostering genuine national reconciliation.
The party further called for the immediate public release of all forensic reports and DNA results linked to the investigation, warning that symbolic gestures of reconciliation will remain empty in the absence of legal accountability.
