Govt. suspends bringing stranded Lankans in Middle East until elections end: Harsha

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Government had reportedly suspended repatriating Sri Lankans who were stranded in the Middle East until the General Elections were over, Jathika Samagi Balawegaya Colombo District candidate Dr Harsha de Silva alleged today.

Addressing a news briefing, he demanded the Government to bring all stranded Sri Lankans in the Middle East to Sri Lanka without delay.

“The Government is of the opinion that bringing Lankans from Middle East would hinder their election campaign and become a disadvantage as more Covid-19 cases can be reported,” Dr. de Silva said.

“That’s why it has reportedly decided to delay bringing Lankans stranded in the Middle East,” he added.
