Fine of Rs 100,000 for those who violate polythene ban

(UTV | COLOMBO) – From 01 August, the fine imposed on those who manufacture, distribute and sell polythene lunch sheets has been increased to Rs 100,000.

The Environment Minister stated that previously, the fine stood at Rs 10,000.

However, it was increased following the ban imposed on the production, distribution, and sale of polythene lunch sheets after 01 August.

Despite the ban on polythene lunch sheets, eco-friendly biodegradable lunch sheets will be able to be used further.
