Commuters to the number of seats, new law soon

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Passenger Transport Management Mahinda Amaraweera says measures will be taken to pass a law to only allow passengers on buses and trains based on the number of seats for Sri Lanka Transport Board operated buses, private buses and trains.

Minister Amaraweera said commuters who purchase tickets have the right to travel safely in a seat.

The Transport Minister said however previous administrations failed to take measures to ensure this right of commuters.

Minister Amaraweera noted new buses in which elderly, differently abled and other commuters can safely travel in will be added to the transport sector in the near future.

The Transport Minister stressed additionally nine trains with facilities have been brought down thus far while two luxury trains will also be deployed in the near future for local as well as foreign tourists.
