Cabinet approval to amend Act

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Cabinet approval has been granted to amend the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act No. 4 of 2015, Co-cabinet Spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila said.

He was addressing the Cabinet media briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department. Minister Gammanpila said that the Act provides a number of benefits to victims and witnesses.

However, in accordance with the provisions of Section 10 of the Act, a request should be made to the Court of Appeal for bail.

“As a result, both suspects and accused have to face inconvenience. Since the Court of Appeal is in Colombo, the suspects who are residing in remote areas face difficulties when they fill bail applications,” the Minister said.
