(UTV | COLOMBO) – Army Commander Lt Gen Shavendra Silva and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence retired Major General Kamal Gunaratane have been promoted to the rank of General by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
This is the second occasion a serving commander is promoted to the rank of four star General.
Previously, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was promoted to the rank of General while serving as the commander of the army soon after defeating the LTTE in 2009.
