UTV | COLOMBO – It has been revealed that the motive behind the robbery of Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s nomination papers for Horana Pradeshiya Sabha was due to a dispute over the list of candidates.
Police Election Unit had also received a complaint in connection with this incident. Police said that the suspects had assaulted the complainant and snatched the nomination list and a mobile phone.
The incident took place last night (17) in a house belonging to former Western Provincial Councilor Earni Kithulgodage in Pokunuwita, Horana.
A senior police officer said that the suspects have been identified and investigations are being carried out to have them arrested.
Meanwhile, nominations for another 248 Local Government bodies will be accepted from today.
Accordingly, nominations are accepted for 17 Municipal Councils, 23 Urban Councils, and 208 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
Nominations for those LG bodies will close at noon on 21st of December.
466 recognized political parties and 57 independent groups handed over nominations for 93 LG bodies of which the nominations were ended last Thursday (14).
Meanwhile, United People’s Freedom Alliance deposited bonds for Colombo Municipal Council this morning (18).
They also deposited bonds for Matara MC, Matara PS, Pitabeddara PS and Kotapola PS.
Our correspondent said that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna also deposited bonds for Kotapola, Pitabeddara PS, and Kotapola PS today.
