(UTV | COLOMBO) –MELBOURNE) – Sri Lanka pace spearheads Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.
Chameera has been ruled out due to another calf injury.
Chameera had also missed the 2022 Asia Cup because of a calf injury but was included in their World Cup squad after he was passed fit.
The 30-year-old played a key role in Sri Lanka’s thumping 79-run win over the UAE in Geelong yesterday by taking the first three wickets to fall in the innings and ended up with figures of 3 for 15.
However, he sustained the injury during the last over of his spell and was seen shaking his head as he hobbled off the field.
Sri Lanka also have fitness issues surrounding batter Danushka Gunathilaka and pace bowler Pramod Madushan, with both of them laid low by hamstring problems.
It puts the side in a difficult position, having lost the opening game of the tournament to Namibia; they are currently placed third in their group with only two points.
Pacer Binura Fernando also replaced injured Dilshan Madushanka in the Sri Lanka squad at the eve of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Sri Lanka will take on the Netherlands in a Group A encounter in Geelong tomorrow.
The game is scheduled to get underway at 9.30am Sri Lanka time.
