(UTV | COLOMBO) – According to the Railway Department, a huge number of employees will retire and the number of open positions will significantly rise as a result of the public service officers’ forced retirement at the age of 60.
Even if new hires are made, the Department of Railways has noted that it will take them roughly 7 years to train them for the main posts, so this condition will cause problems with running the railway services for a while.
In the future, numerous train trips will need to be cancelled, according to the railway agency.
About 50% of the operational and technical workforce, including Cabinmen, Controller Shunters, and Trained Staff Employees, will retire from the Railway Department.
The department says that because there are no regulations, train cancellations continue to occur.
The department claims that there is a severe lack of operational employees now affecting the railroad service.
The department also asserts that the existing trains would need to be constrained because the required retirement age limit will cause the number of openings to double in the future.
The Railway Department further states that a railway controller must work as a chief controller for 7 years.
