Sri Lanka T20 World Cup squad approved by Sports Minister

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe says he has approved the National Cricket Squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

The squad is expected to be announced shortly. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka team for the T20 World Cup is scheduled to leave for Australia after a training camp in Pallekele in the first week of October.

Sri Lanka is first slated to play two warm-up games against Zimbabwe and Ireland before the World Cup gets under on the 16th of October.

Sri Lanka led by Dasun Shanaka will take on Namibia, the UAE and the Netherlands in the first round games of the World Cup in Geelong.

Sri Lanka despite being considered underdogs won the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup in the UAE beating the much fancied Pakistan in the final.

They also defeated India comfortably during the tournament. Sri Lanka last won a T20 World Cup in 2014.
