(UTV | KYIV) – Volodymyr Zelensky’s motorcade was hit by a car in Kyiv but the president has escaped serious injury.
The Ukrainian leader had just visited the newly liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv, and was travelling back through the capital when a driver crashed into his car and escort vehicles.
He was given the all clear by his medic team who gave the driver emergency aid and transferred him to an ambulance.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, which comes amid reports claiming Vladimir Putin’s limo was ‘attacked in an assasination attempt’.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zelensky paid tribute to his troops in Izium after they triumphantly recaptured the city from Russia.
The Ukrainian president sang the national anthem and was photographed raising his country’s flag during a ceremony in the main square.
‘Earlier, when we looked up, we always looked for the blue sky. Today, when we look up, we are looking for only one thing – the flag of Ukraine,’ Zelensky said on Telegram.
‘Our blue-yellow flag is already flying in the de-occupied Izium. And it will be so in every Ukrainian city and village. We are moving in only one direction – forward and towards victory.’
Izium sustained major damage after six months under Russian occupation.
A large hole and rubble were all that was left where one structure once stood.
‘The view is very shocking, but it is not shocking for me because we began to see the same pictures from Bucha, from the first de-occupied territories,’ Zelensky told reporters. ‘The same destroyed buildings, killed people.’
