Sri Lanka seeks another $ 2.5 billion loan from China

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka has demanded a further $ 2.5 billion loan from China.

It is a $ 1 billion loan and $ 1.5 billion loan facility in two phases. Chinese Ambassador to China, Chi Wengong told in the news conference which was held today in Colombo that China was considering the request.

China has provided $ 2.8 billion in loans to Sri Lanka from 2020 to date. Of those, the $ 1.5 billion exchange rate is convenient.

He said China was never ready to take advantage of the current situation in Sri Lanka.

Xi Wenhong said it is impossible to forget how Sri Lanka helped China fall 70 years ago.

The ambassador pointed out that about 11,000 jobs have been created in Sri Lanka through Chinese projects.

Sea Wenhong added that the Colombo port city has already received about US $ 1.05 billion in investments.

He added that 43 companies have already signed agreements to start businesses in the proposed Hambantota industrial zone.
