(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Government treats the North and the South of the country equally when it comes to development projects and livelihood improvement projects, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
“We do not treat differently the North or the South of the country when carrying out development projects and living standard enhancement projects”, he told a group of Tamil journalists at Temple Trees yesterday (01).
He also said the Government considers both parts of the country alike in implementing all these programmes for the public of the country.
He also recalled that the Government implemented mega development projects in the North and Eastern Provinces between 2005 and 2010 when he was the President. He added that his government worked hard to enhance the living of the public in those provinces with a proper plan.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa pointed out that the former Good Governance Government did no such mega development projects in the North and the East during their tenure. He also said that the Tamil National Alliance who pretended to be the voice of the Tamil people, gained political benefits rather than solving their issues.
The Prime Minister said that one of the main issues of the Tamil People in the North and the East is the water issue for which the Government has already formulated solutions. He also said that it was the responsibility of the media personnel to reveal the genuine issues of the Tamil people in those provinces.
Ministers Douglas Devananda and Dr. Bandula Gunawardena also participated in the meeting.
