‘Overseas returnees have completed quarantine’

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva says intelligence units have been deployed to identify persons who associated those who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a new COVID-19 treatment facility in Iranawila, the Army Commander stated that the identified groups are being directed to quarantine centres.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said all individuals who arrived from overseas have completed the quarantine process and have since been released.

He noted that persons who associated COVID-19 positive cases are presently undergoing the quarantine process.

The Army Commander stated that the Army intelligence units worked tirelessly to identify persons who associated positive coronavirus cases.

The Army Commander also claimed that steps are currently being taken to direct persons who are unable to self-isolate and individuals who disregard orders to self-isolate to quarantine centres.

He noted that a quarantine centre was established at the Zahira College in Puttalam at the beginning of the pandemic, adding that a large number housed there tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Army Commander highlighted that more positive cases would have been recorded in the Puttalam District if the quarantine centre was not established.
