5% Fuel price reduction is not sufficient: former Oppo. Leader

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Five percent fuel prices reduction proposed by the government is hardly sufficient as it does not give the people in Sri Lanka the fullest benefit of the decrease of prices in the global market, former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday. Mr Premadasa told a press conference that prices of fuel could be reduced by 40 percent.

” Price of Octane 95 petrol which is Rs Rs 162 a litre at the moment could be reduced to Rs 94 per litre, a litre of super diesel could be reduced to Rs 77 from Rs 132 while a litre of kerosene could be sold at Rs 40 instead of Rs 70. Also, price of gas cylinder could also be reduced to Rs 1000 from Rs 1483″ Mr Premadasa said.

He said Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will take to the streets if the government fails to give the full benefit of the global fuel price reduction to the people.

” We don’t mind if the government obtain political gains out of the fuel price reduction as we are only concerned with getting the government to do what is best for the country” he also said.
