(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Public Administration Ministry investigation team comprising around 40 officers launched a massive drive in Colombo yesterday and conducted spot checks on over 200 Grama Sevaka offices to take note of whether they are performing their duties effectively or whether they are inconveniencing the general public.

By 8.30 am yesterday, this team had commenced their investigation in the Colombo Maligawatte, Colombo East and Keththarama West areas and had found that although people had been waiting for hours at many of the Grama Senaka offices, the Grama Sevaka officers had not been present at the due time and had only arrived at their offices after 9.30 am. However, there were others who had not showed up at their offices even by 11.00 am.

This special team is scheduled to compile a report regarding these Grama Sevaka officers who inconvenience the public and flout their responsibilities.

The report will be handed over to the Public Administration Ministry Secretary. Thereafter, appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against such errant Grama Sevaka Officers.

Many people who had come to obtain certificates and other requirements were seen having to undergo great inconvenience and in some instances, the Grama Sevaka officers had been closed as the Grama Sevaka officers were absent. The public were compelled to wait for hours on end,” the investigating officers said.
