(UTV | COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday emphasized the need for making changes to the country’s education system in order to achieve rapid economic development.
The President was speaking during a meeting with officials of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka (UGC) and University Vice Chancellors (VCs) held at the President’s Office yesterday.
The President instructed the UGC officials and the VCs to take steps to revise the university syllabus to comply with the local and foreign job markets with immediate effect.
The President also pointed out that the country’s university system should create a capable workforce to cater to the medical, engineering, ICT, tourism and agricultural sectors.
The President also emphasized the need for introducing a National Education Policy in the country. He said that he is ready to go for a referendum for that purpose if necessary.
