Jordan, Jackson to lead Neil Bogart biopic

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Tony nominee and former “Supergirl” regular Jeremy Jordan is set to play famed American record executive Neil E. Bogart in the upcoming biopic “Spinning Gold” which deals with the rise of Bogart’s Casablanca Records label in the 1970s.

The exec had an ear, signing the likes of Donna Summer, Parliament, KISS, Village People, Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, and many more to his label. He died at just 39 from cancer and lymphoma.

The film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as Parliament’s George Clinton, D.L. Hughley plays Parliament’s Bootsy Collins, Neil Patrick Harris is KISS co-manager Bill Aucoin, Jason Derulo is Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Kenan Thompson plays Motown’s Berry Gordy, Jazmine Sullivan is Gladys Knight, and Steven Strait is KISS’ Gene Simmons. The casting for Donna Summer has not yet been revealed.

Michelle Monaghan and Caitlin FitzGerald will play Bogart’s first and second wives, respectively, while Jason Isaacs plays his father. Jay Pharoah, Dan Fogler, Chris Redd, and James Wolk also have key roles.

The late Bogart’s son, Timothy Scott Bogart, pens and directs the film with shooting set to begin July 16th in Montreal and will boast an impressive soundtrack full of hits of the era. The young Bogart says he won’t sugarcoat the excesses of sex and drugs that were prevalent in the music business during his father’s heyday.
