(UTV|COLOMBO) – Parliamentarian (MP) Manusha Nanayakkara has raised doubts over the resignation of the head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS).
Speaking to media following an event held in Galle the MP said the public maintain doubts as to whether the Chief of the SIS resigned due to political influence.
He said it would be fair and acceptable, if any top intelligence official willingly resigned after making a statement, that it was due to the shortcomings of intelligence service, or it was determined that intelligence was to blame for not preventing the terrorist attacks. However he highlighted that no such statement was made.
He charged a majority believe that this resignation was due to someone’s interference or influence.
He stressed it is a gravely concerning issue that state officials, particularly state intelligence officials are unable to act independently and fulfill the tasks they are vested with.
