150 houses damaged by strong winds

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Disaster Management Centre says around 150 houses have been damaged due to the strong winds reported in several areas across the country.

Deputy Director and Media Spokesman of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili said damage estimations are currently underway in order to provide compensation.

He said 10 houses in Monaragala, 112 houses in the Colombo District and several more houses in the Mullaitivu and Vavuniya Districts were damaged by the heavy winds.

The DMC on a separate note urged those residing in mountainous regions to remain vigilant.

Kodippili said rainfall above 75mm can be expected in the Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Western, North Western and Central Provinces tonight.
