PSC on Easter Sunday Attacks to convene today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attacks will convene once again at 2pm today at the Parliamentary complex.

Chairman of the Committee Parliamentarian Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne said the Chairman of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Organisation, former Governor of the Western Province Azath Salley and two others will appear before the Committee today.

Meanwhile providing evidence before the Committee last week Former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando said the National Security Council only convened four times upon his appointment prior to the Easter Sunday attacks.

Hemasiri Fernando claimed he received information on a possible attack on the 8th of April through the Chief of the State Intelligence Service following which he instructed the same to be informed to the Security Committee on the 9th of April adding however that only a short discussion was held over the intelligence report during the meeting.

Hemasiri Fernando meanwhile requested the Committee to allow him to make a private statement without the presence of media.

The Former Director of the Terrorist Investigations Division Deputy Inspector General of Police Nalaka de Silva, Secretary of Defence General Shantha Kottegoda and Former Chief of the State Intelligence Service Sisira Mendis also appeared before the Parliament Select Committee appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attacks last week.
