ITF Junior Circuit Week-1 Anjalika wins singles crown

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Fifth seed Anjalika Kurera continued her supreme form to clinch the girls’ singles crown toppling third seeded Korean opponent Yujin Kim in straight sets 7/5, 6/1 in the ITF Junior Circuit Week-1 girls’ singles final at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts yesterday. Anjalika has made this remarkable achievement on her 15th birthday.

Anjalika was unbeaten throughout the tournament and beat Japan’s Harune Shigemasu 6/2, 6/0 in semis and China’s Qianyu Liu 7/6(3), 6/2 in the quarters. She has shown great promise as a budding tennis star in recent times.

Meanwhile top seed China’s Guanglin Wen won the boys’ singles title as his fellow team mate second seed Haoyuan Huang had to retire in the second set 7/6(4), 5-1 during the all-Chinese final. Guanglin beat third seed India’s V. M Sandeep 1/6, 6/3, 6/3 while Haoyuan had the better of India’s Krishan Hood 6/1, 7/5 in the semifinals.

The girl’s doubles final saw Chinese pair Qianyu Liu and Qinglin Zang beating Lenien Jamir (India) and Harune Shigemasu (Japan) 6/3, 6/4.

Chinese duo Haoyuan Huang and Guanglin Wen won the boys’ doubles crown beating Indian pair Prasanna Pravin Bagade and V.M Sandeep in an easy straight set final 6/4, 6/1.
