Lankan Law Enforcement Authorities to assist Dubai Police to probe ‘Makandure Madush’

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Several well-placed sources speculated that a team of Sri Lankan Law Enforcement Authorities is scheduled to leave for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to assist the Dubai Police in the investigations into the recent arrest of a wanted Sri Lankan underworld drug kingpin, ‘Makandure Madush.’

The team of six-members, is comprised with the Officials attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), Special Task Force (STF), and the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Unit, it is learnt.

Thirty-one suspects including several high-profile figures recently arrested red-handed with the drug kingpin, Madush in a raid at a hotel in Dubai.

Reportedly, thirty-one suspects including Artistes Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal along with Madush were remanded till 28 February after being produced in a Dubai Court, however it was later reported that only the Artistes were remanded while the other suspects are still being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Attorneys representing the Artistes were granted approval to file the bail applications within the week.

A large quantity of drugs was recovered from the suspects in the joint operation by the Dubai Police and Sri Lankan Law Enforcement Authorities.

Madush, who is among Sri Lanka’s most wanted criminals, had been evading arrest for the past couple of years.

The Authorities are now in talks with Dubai to extradite him to Sri Lanka.
