Colombo Magistrate Court reissued summons to Ravi Karunanayake

(UTV|COLOMBO) Former Minister Ravi Karunanayke was yesterday noticed to appear before court on November 16 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to give evidence regarding a corruption case filed against former General Manager of Lanka Sathosa Wimal Perera.

The case had been filed by the Bribery Commission against the former General Manager of Sathosa, for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 5 million to the government when purchasing a stock of rice to Sathosa in 2002.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake was the Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs from 2001 to 2004.

When the case was taken up, evidence was recorded from the former Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s private secretary Anne Vindya Fernando.

Evidence was led by the Assistant Director General of Bribery Commission Asitha Anthony.

The Colombo Magistrate also issued summons to the former Chairman of Sathosa Lal Wickrematunga, who has been named as a witness of the case, to appear before the court on November 16.
