The 21st fishing village developed under Wewak Samanga Gamak

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Kudawella fishing village commenced its development under the development project Wewak Samanga Gamak which is being implemented to develop the infrastructure of fishing villages.

The event was taken place under the patronage of Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mahinda Amaraweera where school supplies, music instruments and sports items were distributed to the schools of the Kudawella village. Also the road development activities were initiated and necessary infrastructure such as water, electricity and sanitary facilities are planned to be provided to the fisher community under this program.

Kudawella is the 21st village commenced its development under the Wewak Samanga Gamak Progarm. The Minister stated that development of 100 villages will be initiated prior to the Sinhala Hindu New Year and a housing development program will commence before the end of this year for the coastal fishing families.

Budgetary allocations of Rs. 1200 million has been allocated for this purpose and priority will be given to under-construction housing requirements. Accordingly, each house will be granted at least a sum of one lakh under this program, said the Minister.
