Country in debt to forbearers for freedom- President

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says many freedom struggles have strengthened the story of human progress.

The Head of State in an official message to mark the 69th Independence Day said Sri Lanka is indebted to the country’s forbearers, whose selfless sacrifices have brought about freedom for Sri Lanka.

President Sirisena said it is at a challenging and decisive moment that Sri Lanka celebrates Independence Day this year.

The President added it is the responsibility of all to strengthen the recently secured democratic freedom.

The President also said Sri Lanka has been able to overcome a dark era and re-illuminate aspirations for democracy, freedom and human dignity.

President Maithripala Sirisena said the people as a nation; deserve to live a prosperous life in a country where peace, justice and equality prevail.
