Human Elephant Conflict – Sixty five elephants killed in Anuradhapura

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sixty five elephants have been killed in Anuradhapura wildlife-zone during last year due to human activities.

It is reported that 43 elephants were killed in Anuradhapura, 12 in Puttalam and 10 more in Kurunegala area.

According to experts, that most of the elephants died in shootings. The wild elephants has fallen victims to hunters, explosives (Hakka Patas) and died of poisoning.

Several have died after being hit by trains.
