Local Government Election period to be discussed

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Political party leaders will convene today to discuss the upcoming Local Government Election following which a decision will be reached pertaining to its conduct.

The discussion follows a party leaders meeting that took place at the Parliamentary complex last week.

During the party leaders meeting the group arrived at a decision to finalize a period during which the Local Government election should be held.

It was agreed to hold the Local Government Election under the new electoral system especially after the report on Delimitation by the National Delimitation Commission was handed over.

The delimitation report will be gazetted before the 31st of January. The gazette notification and its compilation will also be brought to the attention of the party leaders today.
