“Buddhism is given due place; Not ready to betray war heroes” – Foreign Minister

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake reiterates that the main aim of the Unity Government is to enter a process of Constitutional Amendment that would form a unitary system of rule where the Buddhism is fostered, protected and given its due place and honour.

The Minister points out that it is their collective duty and responsibility to safeguard and nourish Buddhism.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake expressed these views addressing media during the 44th Commemoration Ceremony of former Minister late V. A. Sugathadasa, which was held on Monday (10) in front of the Sugathadasa Statue near the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The Minister said that as a Government, they are responsible to protect the war heroes those who saved the country. He also said that no country can move forward by inciting racism and, there is a strong Government in power today for all communities to go forward together.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake further said that he always pointed out the necessity of a complete Constitution that is acceptable to all communities while giving Buddhism its due honour.

In his address to the gathering, the Minister said that the service rendered to the country by a former Minister of Sports V.A. Sugathadasa is immortal. He said that it is their duty to remember such services rendered by the former Minister to uplift the living condition of people in Colombo North at this moment.
