645,000 affected due to the prevalent drought – DMC

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says over 600,000 persons have been affected as a result of the prevailing drought conditions in the country.

Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili said the center is taking all necessary steps to supply all basic needs to those affected.

Kodippili said over 645,000 citizens have been affected so far by the prevailing drought conditions adding that the DMC and all affiliated ministries and departments are taking necessary steps to provide those affected with the assistance they require.

The Assistant Director said Parallel to supplying drinking water; we have initiated programs with other parties engaged in agriculture, irrigation, electricity and water adding that the DMC and other regional centers are also engaged in providing financial assistance to those affected.

He added the DMC has taken steps to ensure all district DMC centers are used as supply centers.
